The festival -- which will feature more than 70 topiaries and 30 million blooms -- opened Thursday and continues through June 3. James will take part in the Great American Gardeners series which runs through April 8, as part of the opening weekend festivities.
This year's festival has been expanded to 60 days from its previous seven-week run.
Among the highlights will be the first-ever pirate ship topiary featuring Peter Pan and his nemesis, Captain Hook. Also making topiary appearances throughout the park will be a pirate Mickey Mouse, a princess Minnie Mouse, plus Cinderella and Prince Charming, Belle and her Beast from "Beauty and the Beast," a towering pirate Goofy, Donald Duck and Pluto.
For the first time in the festival's history, Disney's horticultural team will plant two crop rotations during the festival, producing "the biggest opening show ever" and allowing for a more brilliant floral display for the festival's duration, according to Disney horticultural manager Eric Darden.
In addition to the displays created by the Disney horticultural staff, the festival will feature celebrity guest speakers, hands-on seminars and innovative planting demonstrations, exhibits such as the new Art of Outdoor Living garden next to the Morocco pavilion, Minnie's Magnificent Butterfly Garden and the Growing Future Gardeners area, complete with colorful planting ideas for kids and parents.
Each evening, Flower Power concerts will rock the park with live entertainment from top acts of the 1960s and 1970s. This year's scheduled acts include The Guess Who, Davy Jones, Jose Feliciano, Petula Clark and The Box Tops.
